Voted “Best Band in Massachusetts” at the New England Music Awards, The Brew will play an acoustic show on July 13 at 7:30pm, while the mother-daughter duo of Lucy Wainwright Roche and Suzzy Roche perform on July 26. Three-piece act Pearl and the Beard visits August 2 at 8pm.

The Writers in the Loft series will continue with Boston Globe film critic Ty Burr coming to talk about his book Gods Like Us: On Movie Stardom and Modern Fame on July 17 at 7pm. J. Courtney Sullivan will talk about her new book, The Engagements, on July 31 at 7pm. Hilarity @ The Music Hall: Darwin’s Waiting Room will perform on July 19 & 20 at 8pm in the Loft as part of the comedy series.

“We are so excited to be announcing these shows which include our newest series, the Martingale Wharf Singer Songwriter Festival. After a stunning, sold-out 2009 reunion performance at the Continental Club in Austin, The Relatives began performing regularly again, barnstorming major festivals and venues worldwide, taking their incredible stage show and four-part harmony to Lincoln Center, ACL Fest, Bonnaroo and Splendour in the Grass. Summer 2011 found the group in southern France, where they appeared at the Cognac Blues Passions festival, collaborating with a 30-member French community choir for an impassioned performance of Relatives originals. 2011 also saw The Relatives combine forces with Garage/Soul powerhouse Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears to record “You Been Lyin,” which appears on the Black Joe Lewis album, Scandalous. Their Austin City Limits TV taping with Black Joe Lewis has been called “one of the best we’ve ever seen” by longtime ACL staff and fans.

Martingale Wharf Singer Songwriter Series: Pearl and the Beard

Friday August 2, 2013 8pm The Loft
Tickets: $15
Pearl and the Beard is three voices, one cello, one guitar, one glockenspiel, one melodica, several drums, one accordion, 96 teeth, and one soul. Former strangers Jocelyn Mackenzie, Emily Hope Price, and Jeremy Styles were united in the great city of New York. Each had migrated there from a far corner of the nation with naught but food in their pockets and money in their bellies. Each had the same true love. Since then, the three have nested, and their unique brand of brightly melodic songcraft continues to blossom of its own accord. The band’s genre-bending and expectation-defying sound has since burst the trio out of the confines of the New York music scene, allowing them to travel the United States for a multitude of national tours and across the pond for a hugely successful inaugural UK tour in 2011. They’ve caught the attention of The Boston Globe, Filter Magazine, The Wall Street Journal and thousands of wildly dedicated fans both local and international.
“They transcend genre. It’s indie folk music, but it’s also infused with blues hollers, the occasional jazz riff, and a deep passion for the material.” - The Boston Globe
