The Music Hall has just announced the latest addition to its Intimately Yours concert series lineup—the return of Phish bassist/vocalist Mike Gordon to the stage of the Historic Theater Saturday November 12 at 8pm. Tickets are on sale to members noon, Saturday, October 1, and to the public noon, Saturday October 8.
Beyond his work with the legendary jam band, Gordon has released three albums, Inside In (2002), Green Sparrow (2008) and Moss (2010). He also cut a highly entertaining pair of albums—Clone (2002) and Sixty Six Steps (2005)—with guitarist Leo Kottke. On tour, Gordon is known for his endless creativity and touring stamina.
“Mike Gordon is a unique, inventive songwriter and musician whose cup is overflowing with music on many different fronts,” says Thérèse LaGamma, The Music Hall’s Deputy Director of Programming & Curator. “He is equally proficient on guitar, banjo, and piano. Fans and first-timers alike will be rocking to his singular sound that mixes free-form rock & roll, calypso, pop, and funk. We can’t wait to welcome him back to The Music Hall!”
In addition to being a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and songwriter, Gordon is also an avid filmmaker and photographer. He formed his first band in high school and in 1983, while attending the University of Vermont, launched the jam band Phish along with guitarists Trey Anastasio and drummer Jon Fishman. Gordon has shot music videos for Phish and directed the 2000 feature film Outside Out. In common with his Phish band-mates, he was involved in several outside projects during his time with the band, including working with Jamie Masefield (Jazz Mandolin Project) and Doug Perkins (Smokin’ Grass) in Grappa Boom. The end result of his albums and performances is always eclectic, boasting a skillful assimilation of many musical styles and revealing new layers of far-reaching invention.
