Best known for her early days with the legendary Staples Singers, “Respect Yourself” “I’ll Take You There” and “Slippery People” Mavis has been recognized as a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. She just took home the Grammy Award for Best Americana Album for her collaboration with Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy - You Are Not Alone. In her emotional acceptance speech, Staples said: “This Grammy took a long time coming. You haven’t seen the last with me. God is not through with me yet.”
According to Programming Manager and Curatorial Associate Therese LaGamma, “Mavis Staples is fresh off the success of her latest collaboration with Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy and Grammy win… she continues to give knock out live performances and has found a way at age 71 to win over new and young audiences!!”
