MIFF at The Music Hall: Film Titles Announced

- 7/1/2009

The Music Hall today announced the film titles for MIFF@The Music Hall, The Maine International Film Festival in Portsmouth to take place at the landmark Victorian theater July 17-19, 2009. Sponsored by the Portsmouth Brewery, the weekend will feature eight films, seminars and guests. According to Chris Curtis, Music Hall Film Coordinator, who is overseeing the initiative, “The team at MIFF have a rare gift for unearthing cinematic gold which most folks never hear about, much less see.  They have done all the digging - all we need to do is sit back and enjoy the treasure.  Portsmouth is a film town. For anyone interested not only in great storytelling on the big screen, but also in true art in cinema, July 17-19 are days to mark in your calendar for coming to The Music Hall.  Get your passes now!

Bill Pence, Music Hall film curator expands on Chris’ comments, “MIFF is original, smart, deep - a rare jewel in the world of American film festivals. MIFF Founders and artistic directors Beth and Ken Eisen are experienced and knowledgeable in international film history and business and have a passion for cinema that permeates the festival. And while MIFF is truly abreast of the newest and best in international and American cinema, it also holds dear rediscoveries and tributes to films and artists of cinema’s past. On a personal level, MIFF is really fun. Ken and Beth bring to the event their warm and welcoming manner, and, while affording the works of film art the gravitas they deserve, the two directors keep their senses of humor and light hearted approach to the event.”

About The Maine International Film Festival
10 days, 100 films, 50 filmmakers. - Founded in 1998, the Maine International Film Festival (MIFF) is a project of the Maine Film Center <http://www.mainefilmcenter.org> . During the 10 days of the festival in Waterville, Maine nearly 100 films are shown, representing the best of American independent and international cinema. A spotlight is focused on some of Maine and New England's most exciting and innovative filmmakers. And, MIFF's Fireflies Program offers children's films from around the world as well as workshops and related arts events for children and teens. More than just movies: Audiences also have opportunities to meet and talk with some of the people behind the movies - directors, producers, writers, musicians. Every year the Festival honors members of the independent film industry whose contributions to cinema deserve recognition. Honored guests and visiting filmmakers host panel discussions as well as informal Q&A sessions, giving the audiences an incredible chance to hear about the art of film from those on the front lines. MIFF's special guests have included Mid-Life Achievement Award winners John Turturro (MIFF 2008) Bud Cort (MIFF 2007), Walter Hill (MIFF 2006), Lili Taylor (MIFF 2005 "Pre" Mid-Life Achievement Award Honoree), Ed Harris (MIFF 2004), Peter Fonda (MIFF 2003), Jonathan Demme (MIFF 2002), Sissy Spacek (MIFF 2001), and Terrence Malick (MIFF 2000).
