Emotions Rule at Opera Connection, April 25

When it comes to music and to opera, no one makes these connections better than composer/cultural historian Dennis Neil Kleinman, who leads lively, no-PhD required discussions prior to several Met at The Music Hall HD broadcasts each season. Attendees at this popular event leave entertained, enlightened, and ready to enjoy the opera with an enhanced understanding of these theatrical extravaganzas.

Approaching this season’s final Opera Connection—on Saturday, April 25 at 11 am at the Loft—we caught up with Dennis to give us the skinny on the two short operas (being paired as one) broadcasting at the Historic Theater at 12:30 pm: Cavalleria Rusticana & Pagliacci. “We’ll dig into these popular works, which somehow manage to express the most painful human emotions in the most exquisite music imaginable, and show their connections to Shakespeare, the paintings of Caravaggio, and to Birdman, this year’s Oscar winner for Best Picture,” he said. “I do believe these operas are not to be missed.”
