Built in 1878, The Music Hall in Portsmouth is the oldest theater in New Hampshire, the second oldest in New England, and the 14th oldest in the United States of America. The Music Hall is an educational and charitable organization presenting live and cinematic arts in a landmark 900-seat opera house. Recently designated an "American Treasure" by the U.S. Senate, The Music Hall is the cornerstone of the Seacoast's arts community.

The Music Hall is a stage for everyone in our community.

It is the leading cultural and performing arts center between Boston and Portland. Our theater is an outstanding example of Romanesque architecture in the heart of one of New England's most charming seaports. The world plays here - from Broadway shows to the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, from the London City Opera to the ever-popular Telluride by the Sea Film Festival.

Last season, over 23,000 patrons applauded world-renowned artists in more than 40 live performances; 21,000 film buffs attended our weekly offering of art and foreign cinema; and 16,000 students participated in our educational performing arts series.

Ticket sales account for just over 50% of the actual cost of our performances.

The other half of our annual operating expenses is raised through individual donors, foundations and corporate members like you.

A recent economic impact study by Americans for the Arts states that there is compelling new evidence that the nonprofit arts are a $26.1 million industry in Portsmouth - one that attracts audiences, spurs business development, supports jobs, and generates government revenue. Portsmouth area non-profit arts organizations, which spend $8.6 million each year, leverage a remarkable $17.5 million in additional spending by arts audience - spending that pumps vital revenue into local restaurants, hotels, retail stores, parking garages, and other businesses.

Enjoy the benefits of corporate sponsorship at The Music Hall. Come to The Music Hall and play a leading role in the vibrant arts scene of Seacoast New Hampshire!
