Social on the Seacoast: Literary Giant Salman Rushdie takes the Stage this Wednesday

At his Writers on a New England Stage appearance in Portsmouth, Rushdie will discuss his just-published memoir about those harrowing years in exile, Joseph Anton—cited in The New York Times as a “deeply felt and revealing document and by The Observer as “more gripping than any spy story”.

The Music Hall’s Executive Director Patricia Lynch sees Rushdie’s story as moving and provocative, but most of all vitally important. “Here we are in the 21st century, and the life of one of our greatest literary masters is on the line for writing a novel! It feels like the Middle Ages, but in fact the battle for freedom of speech and artistic expression is so right now,” she says. “How could anyone not take the opportunity to be in the room with Salman Rushdie?”
