Update 4/15/21: Statewide mask mandate expiration

While we are thankful to the Governor for taking steps toward reopening fully by lifting the statewide mask mandate, our mask policy remains the same. This is inline with the City of Portsmouth’s mask ordinance which is still in effect.

  • Everyone coming to an event will be required to wear a mask until they are at their socially-distanced seat (and we encourage patrons to wear masks unless actively eating or drinking). 
  • Our staff and volunteers will continue to wear masks in order to protect themselves, the artists, and our patrons.

We are doing everything we can for the safety of our patrons, staff, volunteers, and artists. Our phased approach started with a new outdoor concert series on Chestnut Street and with a brand new HVAC system, we are open to limited audiences with socially-distanced seating inside the Historic Theater.

What We’re Doing to Keep You and Our Staff Safe:

  • We are following guidance issued by the Governor’s task force and CDC, as well as adding other safety measures.
  • Signage and pathways will guide you into and through the theater safely.
  • Staff and volunteers will be wearing masks and have been trained on the proper measures for use of PPE. 
  • We’ve upgraded our systems and HVAC to increase safety, with medical-grade filtration and iWave ionization. We are changing filters more often and increasing the circulation rates on a 24-hour cycle. 
  • We’re asking parties to leave 6 feet of space in all directions in between parties.
  • We will be reassessing often and adjusting protocols before opening up further.

What We’re Asking You to Do When You Visit:

  • If you are feeling sick, have symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, loss of smell or taste, muscle aches, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath, chills, headache, gastrointestinal issues) or if you have been exposed to someone who has tested positive to COVID-19, please stay home!
  • We’re asking you to protect yourself, our staff, and our community by wearing a mask in all communal areas. You may remove your mask while sitting in your seat, but please wear your mask while entering, exiting, and if you visit concessions or the restrooms.
  • Follow signs and stanchions to your seat.
  • Hand sanitizer stations are placed throughout the theater. Please sanitize your hands upon entering the theater, and wash your hands after using the restrooms.
  • Practice social distancing wherever possible. 
  • Even if you feel healthy and safe, please be considerate of your fellow patrons by following these protocols.

Please review the following screening questions prior to entering The Music Hall:

    1. Have you been in close contact with someone who is suspected or confirmed to have had COVID-19 in the last 10 days? (NOTE: Healthcare workers caring for COVID-19 patients while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment should answer “no” to this question)
    2. Have you had a fever or felt feverish in the last 24 hours?
    3. Are you experiencing any respiratory symptoms, new muscle aches, chills, or changes to taste and/or smell?
    4. In the past 10 days, have you traveled internationally, domestically (within the U.S.) outside of New England, and/or on a cruise ship?

    If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, please do not put our employees and other customers at risk and come back another day when you feel better.

    Why are you reopening?
    The Governor’s task force put forth guidelines that we are following closely, if not more strictly to ensure the safety of our staff, patrons, and volunteers. We believe in live entertainment and gathering together around a shared experience. By reopening, The Music Hall helps contribute to the economic success of businesses around us, helping the downtown area and greater Seacoast community recover from the impact of COVID-19.

    What if I’m not ready to come back?
    It’s okay if you’re not ready to come back. We’ll be here whenever you’re ready and we are listening and adapting as new information comes to light.

    Do I have to wear a mask?
    Yes, please! We’re asking you to protect yourself, our staff, and our community by wearing a mask into the building and in all communal areas. You may remove your mask while sitting in your seat, but please wear your mask while entering, exiting, and if you visit concessions or the restrooms.

    What does the new HVAC system do? 
    The new HVAC has a new fresh air intake and will run on a 24-hour schedule. There are custom filters for both facilities and the new system is retrofitted into systems like hospitals and gyms. It’s called the iWave system and it is a commercial-grade ionizing system that will help improve our HVAC filters. Ionization attracts and combines particulates so that they are captured more easily by the filters.

    How are you keeping the theater clean?
    The theater will be thoroughly cleaned each day between events, and surfaces will be regularly sanitized throughout the day with strong disinfectant products.
