Mixing a blend of soulful singer-songwriter repertoire with hints of jazz, classic rock, and jamband, Sarah Blacker and the Light’s sound is familiar, compelling, and chill-evoking all in the same breath. Regularly compared to Joni Mitchell and Rickie Lee Jones, Blacker, who pens the majority of the trio’s repertoire and plays skillful rhythm guitar, ukulele, and lends her gorgeous lead vocals to the project, was named ‘Female Performer of the Year’ in the New England Music Awards and is also a Boston Music Award nominee, and a Board-Certified music therapist, and Master’s Level Mental Health Clinician. Jammy award-winning, talented singer/songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, Aaron Z. Katz (Percy Hill, Vitamin C, Ammonium Maze Ensemble) plays percussion and drums and brings his passionate danceable rhythms to this band, pulling in hints of Paul Simon and Steely Dan’s world-infused rhythm sections, while singing harmonies too. Phil Selesnick plays bass with one hand and impressive solos with the right on funk-infused keyboards and melodica, and also sings both leads and harmonies in the trio. Together, the three seasoned musicians present seamless songs that expand into danceable grooves and playful improvisational journeys, making their sound, all their own.
