A Season in review: 2015-2016

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that my very favorite weekend of the year is always Telluride by the Sea. Three days, six (or for the adventurous nine) amazing movies, and a whole weekend of talking about the thought provoking movies that we get to see before anyone else. If you’ve never experienced a Telluride by the Sea weekend, add it to your list.

Doing the social media here at TMH always makes me feel like Eloise at the Plaza, I have a mostly all access pass that allows me to experience things most people don’t. This past summer while I was waiting in the wings to give my welcome speech, I learned that Graham Nash is a big fan of our popcorn as he snacked on it before he took the stage. This spring when Pink Martini came back to the Historic Theater, I looked up to see the fabulous China Forbes standing on one of landings backstage singing “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” from Evita, while wearing one of the most amazing Caftan that I’ve ever seen.

From the Opera Box, I got to watch Melissa Etheridge perform her greatest hits, and I even got to take what is perhaps my favorite selfie. When Mavis Staples came to town she noticed I was standing in the wings and came over to me while singing “I’ll Take You There” (a song that happens to be one of my all time favorites), not to mention that she was appearing with Joan Osborne. I can’t forget to add watching Lucius close their show with an acoustic encore.

season review

I’m still singing the songs from White Christmas, a production that was so magical that I’m pretty sure I saw it at least seven times. The singing, the dancing, the sets, and who could forget the snow all combined to make my favorite holiday movie come to life in a production that was more spectacular that I could have imagined.

If pushed, I would say my favorite memory of this season was while I was tweeting during the Master Class we put on with Salmon Rushdie for University of New Hampshire MFA students. I tweeted from my personal account about how cool the experience was, a tweet that he promptly retweeted. If that wasn’t cool enough, when I thanked him, he simply smiled at me and said “smile like a million people just read your tweet, because they just did.”

With as amazing as this season was, I’m pretty sure this coming season if going to be just as phenomenal. We’ve already got a stellar lineup of shows that promise to create many more magical moments.
