A year in review: 2015

Years from now when people ask me what my favorite memory of The Music Hall is, I’m confident that I will answer with Fill the Hall. I will never forget the young family that came to the theater, their three year old clutching their bag of food looking for the perfect seat to place it on as her mother told me “we don’t have much, but I want her to know we have more than others and to alway remember that.” That one interaction summed up the entire day. To watch family after family drop off bags and bags of groceries, local businesses and restaurants take the time to act as drop off locations, it was a magical moment that I can’t wait to recreate in 2016.

Fill the hall

This spring we launched our Let’s Talk About series with Let’s Talk About Heroine. We brought together a panel of experts ranging from law enforcement officials to recovery experts to facilitate a conversation with members of the community. This epidemic has touched everyone in some way and I was proud that we took a leadership role on this to help erase the stigma and to open up the conversation. The Let’s Talk About series continues this winter with Let’s Talk About Poverty

Trevor Noah

As a Daily Show fan, I was heartbroken when I heard that Jon Stewart was leaving the show and more than a little unsure of Trevor Noah. After seeing his smart, funny, charming, and thought provoking stand up comedy routine at the Historic Theater I was a fan. Trevor lit up the stage and navigated through difficult topics with grace, charm, and a lot of laughs. It was one of those performances that we’ll be talking about for a long time.

Lucius Dance Party

2015 also brought one of my very favorite dance parties in the Historic Theater. This fall up-and-coming indie band Lucius came brought their infectious music to the Hall. By the end of their show every person was up on their feet dancing, making it one of the most fun nights I’ve had at the Theater.

Finally, my biggest highlight was all of the #MyWhiteChristmas challenge videos that we received. I got the biggest kick out of seeing all of the different takes on the iconic songs. While I’m not sure anyone will top C&J Bus Lines take on “Sisters” I loved each and every video that was submitted. Thank you to everyone who created a video and helped us spread some White Christmas Cheer.

It’s been a crazy year here at TMH and looking at the calendar, 2016 is shaping up to be just as special. I hope I’ll see you all at the Theater soon and have a happy, healthy, and safe New Year.
