Discovering the best at the Loft

Over the last year and a half I’ve discovered the the Ukrainian folk-punk quartet DakhaBrakha, who is back at the Loft on April 20, prolific singer songwriter Melissa Ferrick, and for those of you who know me, John Moreland who I was thrilled to see perform on The Late Show last month.

Each month as our Deputy Director of Programming, Thérèse LaGamma (my Musical Spirit Guide), adds in new shows to the season, I open up my Spotify and once again discover a new artist or group. I start to research these artists, I get a feel for who they are, where they come from, and what their influences are, it’s like I get to be an archaeologist sifting through the layers and finding something special.

Over the next few months we have an amazing lineup of talented and interesting artists that are just steps away from landing on one of NPR Music’s Best of Lists. Make sure to check out Rodrigo Amarante (who is already a darling of NPR Music) on Friday, February 26, Mokoomba (who are on their first US tour) on Thursday, March 31, and DakhaBrakha (who wear some of the best costumes) on Wednesday, April 20.
