Memorable May Authors Not to Be Missed!

Although their books don’t have too much in common, the buzz about Jared Diamond and Tommy Orange has been incredible to follow and the two are not to be missed this month!

Jared Diamond returns to the Historic Theater with the final book in his monumental trilogy, Upheaval: Turning Points for Nations in Crisis. What I find most interesting about Jared Diamond and his work is that his career has spanned multiple fields of study, all expanding upon and informing the others. He seamlessly combines his studies in geography with evolutionary biology, along with personal experiences from his travels around the globe. Upheaval is a glimpse into this great mind, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out the affordable ticket price at $13.75 to hear the professor speak.

Just a week later, our literary eye turns toward an extraordinary work of fiction, There There by breakout Native American author Tommy Orange. There’s a reason this book has been proclaimed “one of the best books of the year” by dozens of publications and counting. Tommy Orange brings to light a portrait of America we don’t see very often, one that needs to be seen. His voice grabs ahold of you until you look up from the book, unaware that you read the whole thing in one sitting. Don’t miss hearing from this PEN/Hemingway Award-winning author, as his book will surely be a classic.

Join us in the Historic Theater this month and keep your eye out for our summer reads coming in June!
