Returning to Fun and Film

This past year with the pandemic, we have suffered the loss of traditions, human contact, and interaction.  I know personally not being able to see the holiday production The Music Hall and Ogunquit Playhouse put on each year was disappointing; my mom and I see the show each year for my birthday. The Music Hall has been working tirelessly to get back to business as usual while ensuring the safety of everyone. After much planning, coordinating, and collaboration, we are excited to announce the return of film, just in time for Telluride By the Sea!  It is going to be a great time with safe and small audiences and family friendly films!

The Music Hall has been screening movies for over 120 years; from films on the Historic Theater to the Telluride By the Sea film festival, there is plenty to enjoy. This month, we have four films showing. On September 4, we have Best Summer Ever at 3pm and One Ocean Film Tour at 7pm. Best Summer Ever is a musical that features inclusivity and eight original songs. The cast includes people with and without disabilities. I personally love this representation being a person with a disability myself. One Ocean Film Tour is a world-class series of ocean-loving films focused on inspirational stories, adventure, and aquatic environments!

Then on September 11, we bring Godspeed, Los Polacos! at 3pm and Lydia Lunch – The War is Never Over at 7pm. In Godspeed: Los Polacos!, five university students pull the strings of the Soviet system and find themselves on a kayaking expedition in the Americas with little to no whitewater skills. Lydia Lunch – The War is Never Over is a deep dive into the life and work of the fearless musician and performer Lydia Lynch that echoes her unapologetic attitude.

Telluride By the Sea is a smaller version of the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado, which has been celebrating the art of film for 48 years. The Music Hall and Telluride Film Festival collaborated to bring this premiere event to the Seacoast for the 22nd year! The best of the best from Telluride will be shown for three days only at the Historic Theater, September 17-19. Passes to the festival give you access to the entire weekend. Individual tickets as well as film titles will be announced Friday, September 3!
