Why We Love The Music Hall: Beverly Giblin and Joanne Lamprey

In this week’s drawing you have the opportunity to win two round-trip tickets to New York City courtesy of C&J. You’ll ride C&J’s direct bus service which offers passengers an uncommon level of comfort and amenities. Tickets may be used at C&J’s Portsmouth terminal; Tewksbury, MA; or Ogunquit, ME (Seasonally) going to NYC Port Authority. This week we sat down with two current Music Hall members, Beverly Giblin and Joanne Lamprey, to chat about how they became members of the Music Hall, their most memorable events, and their experience traveling direct to New York City via C&J.

LS: How did you become a member of The Music Hall?
BG: I became a member of the Music Hall after having gone to the Stakeholders event with Jo a couple years ago. I had attended concerts from time to time over the past 22 years…and every time I went I loved it. In 2012, I moved to Rye and was spending more and more time doing things with my friends and going to more and more events at the Music Hall. It seems the programing just keeps getting better and better. I have also met so many great new people through attending Music Hall events.
JL: I became a member of the Music Hall at the request of Maxine Morse. She was very persuasive and I was ready for the arts!

LS:What has been your most memorable moment at The Music Hall?
BG: My most memorable event at the Music Hall?  Such a tough question! The Teluride by the Sea Film Festival?  k.d. lang, Chris Botti, Joshua Bell, Steve Martin and Tony Bennett, so many… and there is not a bad seat in the house. It is such an intimate venue, especially compared to NYC where you see performers with thousands in the audience. But I think attending the parties associated with membership have been the best;getting to connect with people and meet new friends, that’s the best part.
JL: I guess my most memorable (and recent) moment was meeting and chatting with Tony Bennett. I had met him 50 years ago at a camera shop in Boston. I was trying to buy a camera but the price was more than I could afford. Suddenly this man who had been standing in the corner came over to the counter and said “here, give her the camera.” Of course I objected but he was gone. The salesperson asked “do you know who that was?” when I told him I didn’t, he informed me it was Tony Bennett, and I replyed “who is that?”  Anyway it was great fun. Then he was here and I finally got to say “thank you” after 50 years. He was very gracious and I got a great picture.

LS:In what ways does your Music Hall membership make you feel part of a community?
BG: It brings business to Portsmouth. We always dine in a restaurant before or after a concert, seeing so many familiar faces everywhere, it makes Portsmouth feel like “my town.” JL: Every program at The Music Hall is like having a great family gathering, but the family members change every time. I feel so enriched being part of it all!

LS:Did you enjoy your recent trip on C&J?
BG: The trip on C&J was great, organized, simple, and clean. Such an easy way to get to NYC.  You don’t have to deal with airports, security, waiting in lines, or long taxi rides into the City..  The bus is as comfortable as a plane, if not more so. It takes no longer to go from Point A to point B by the time you deal with security and waiting time at the airport and you arrive using one vehicle. JL: The C&J trip to NY was wonderful and uneventful (which is always a plus). Great service, comfortable seats, snacks and drinks on board. Also, a great plus is the request that cell phones not be used during the trip. All in all very restful!

LS:What is the biggest benefit to using C&J to get to NYC?
JL:The biggest benefit is the ability to drive, hassle free, no traffic, no waiting in line, no security check, and no stress!!
