Let’s Be Helpers

For those of you who know me, you’ve heard me go on and on about the many wonderful qualities of the State Street Saloon, I would refer to it as my living room. It was my home away from home, where I celebrated every birthday and life milestone, where I spent my football Sunday’s, where I drowned my sorrows, and most importantly, where I found my Portsmouth family. It’s a bar, just a building, and everyone is safe no one was hurt. It’s the mantra that I keep repeating to myself. It’s sad, it’s the end of something that I can’t describe, and I all I lost was my favorite bar. So many others lost so much more. Read More Read More

Celebrating Matt Louis and Evan Mallett’s James Beard Nomination

I have a confession, I have absolutely no interest in cooking. Boiling water is just outside of my skill set. Other than my once a year foray into baking for my gingerbread house, I steer pretty clear of the kitchen. Thankfully, I live in a town where there are so many great restaurants, and here at The Music Hall, we are lucky to partner with so many of them. People often ask me what my favorite restaurant in town is, for me that’s like picking my favorite pair of shoes (and if you know me, you know how difficult that is). The options are seemingly endless and all are fantastic. Read More Read More

Let’s Talk

I’ll never forget reading the story of the Stanford Sexual Assault Survivor. I can’t imagine the strength that it took for her to stand up, face her attacker, and tell the world her story. To then watch it downplayed by the justice system because her attacker was a star athlete really stuck with me. I wondered what kind of message we were sending, not just to the children watching this play out in the news, but to the other people who had suffered the same way this woman had, or worse what does this say to the people who have committed this crime. The Gift of Magic

Pictured: Catherine Charlebois (Belle) and Jason Michael Evans (Beast) with the cast of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Photo Credit: David J. Murray: Clear Eye Photo. Last week, we opened the Ogunquit Playhouse at The Music Hall’s production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, the Broadway musical, and let me tell you, it’s a phenomenal show. Each day, hundreds and hundreds of families came to the Historic Theater, creating memories that will last for a lifetime. The lobby is full of little girls dressed in their very best dresses and little boys in ties and dress pants posing for pictures and wiggling with excitement to see the show. It might be the most adorable thing that we see each year. Read More Read More

It’s beginning to look a lot like Beauty

Today is the day, today, the curtain goes up on the first preview show of Beauty and the Beast. I’m pretty excited to see my favorite childhood movie come to life on my favorite stage, and from the bits and pieces of rehearsal that I’ve seen, it’s going to blow away my expectations. The set, the costumes, the actors, it’s all just spectacular. Read More Read More

Grateful and Thankful at The Music Hall

Gratitude is a word we’ve been talking a lot about over the last month here at The Music Hall. Every morning, Patricia Lynch, our Executive Director, takes a few moments to list the five things she’s grateful for. As this is my Thanksgiving week blog, I thought I’d take a page from her playbook and share the five things I’m grateful for here at The Music Hall. Read More Read More
